The robust industrial base and the presence of a port at Pipavav has prompted the setting up of a 700 MW power plant to cater to the increasing power requirements of the region. A Special Purpose Vehicle, the GSPC Pipavav Power Company Limited (GPPC) has been set up to execute the project. The project is scheduled for commissioning by mid-2009.
